Product Description
Designated "El Sonero Mayor" (the foremost improvising Latin singer), though there has been recent controversy about when and from whom he acquired this epithet. Needless to say, Rivera, also affectionately known as Maelo, has been showered with superlatives and been the subject of numerous tribute songs. He was blessed with a crystal clean tenor voice, which he later honed into a unique improvisational instrument.
This album was originally released in 1972 and Rivera soon became a major star, but his fame precipitated depression, which "made him temporarily turn away from his musical goal, searching for life's highs through other channels." He issued seven more solo albums between 1973 and 1980. But this one remains one of the fan and critics' favorites. Essential to all collections!
